Volpeās family were seen taking celebratory pictures with the shortstop on Sunday afternoon.
Volpe is just 21 years old but heās considered one of the brightest prospects in baseball. His spring training showing certainly proved that.
In competition withĀ Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Oswald Peraza for the shortstop spot, Volpe battedĀ .314/.417/.647.
Fans were psyched about their future at shortstop getting his shot:
Yankees fans celebrate Anthony Volpe on Yankees Opening Day Roster
Itās easy to see why Yankees fans are so excited about Volpe. Heās the No. 5 overall prospect in MLB and he certainly looked ready for the show this spring.
The biggest question was whether New York wanted to see him to continue to develop in the minors.
However, it seems teams are now erring on the side of giving their top prospects a chance. The Cardinals just made the decision to put No. 4 overall prospect Jordan Walker on their Opening Day roster.
New York will open their season on Thursday, March 30 against the Giants. And it looks likely theyāll have Volpe starting at shortstop.
There could be additional fallout to this move, whether roster moves or even a major trade as the Yankees get their lineup set for the season.
