From last place in the NFC West in 2021 to an unexpected playoff berth this past season. Things are certainly looking up for the Seattle Seahawks.

It’s just further evidence that it doesn’t take long for teams in the National Football League to bounce back after a dismal year or fall on hard times after a successful season.

In 2021, the Seattle Seahawks were the only team in the NFC West not to finish with a winning record and not make the playoffs. A year later, the club got off to a fast start, cooled a bit down the stretch but managed to grab a wild card berth. The team got a big season from quarterback Geno Smith, the 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

So much for those who felt the franchise was on the skids and in rebuilding mode after dealing quarterback Russell Wilson to Denver and releasing star linebacker Bobby Wagner (more on him later). Suddenly, the franchise appears to be on the upswing and could make hay in April’s draft.

Seahawks draft picks 2023

Head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider will have 10 selections throughout draft weekend. The Seahawks have five of the first 83 picks, with two choices in both the first and second rounds.

  • Round 1: 5th overall
  • Round 1: 20th overall
  • Round 2: 37th overall
  • Round 2: 52nd overall
  • Round 3: 83rd overall
  • Round 4: 123rd overall
  • Round 5: 151st overall
  • Round 5: 154th overall
  • Round 6: 198th overall
  • Round 7: 237th overall

The Seahawks have those additional choices in the first two round thanks to last year’s deal with the Broncos than sent Russell to the Mile High City. Because the Broncos finished 5-12, the selections turned into the fifth and 37th overall picks. Seattle also has an extra fifth-round choice after dealing cornerback Akhello Witherspoon to the Steelers in 2021.

Seahawks draft needs 2023

Carroll’s club could use some more help in the trenches according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

1. Guard

2. Center

3. Interior defensive line

4. Edge

On defense, the return of six-time All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner is huge. He inked a one-year, $7 million deal with the Seahawks. A year ago, he was released by the franchise and he spent 2022 with the Rams. Wagner racked up an impressive 140 tackles a six sacks a year ago with Los Angeles. The club also added former Steelers’ first-rounder Devin Bush.

The team still needs to address the front seven, although the free-agent additions of Dre’Mont Jones (Broncos) and one-time Seahawks’ standout Jarran Reed (Packers) should help.
