3 WRs not named OBJ the Chiefs should consider adding
It isn’t a secret that the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to add another wide receiver, but Odell Beckham Jr. may not be the right answer for them.
After losing JuJu Smith-Schuster to the New England Patriots and Mecole Hardman to the New York Jets this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have notable holes at the wide receiver position. As a result of this, they should be browsing both the free-agent and trade markets for receivers. Odell Beckham Jr. has emerged as a possible target for them because of this.
However, with several teams being linked to OBJ, his value is starting to increase. There also have been rumblings that he is preference is to join the New York Jets, so the Chiefs should consider their options elsewhere. As a result, let’s discuss three wide receivers besides who they should make a push for instead of OBJ.
Chiefs: 3 wide receivers to add not named Odell Beckham Jr.
3. Jarvis Landry
One free-agent wide receiver who the Chiefs could consider taking a flyer on is Jarvis Landry. The 30-year-old spent this past season with the New Orleans Saints, where he had one touchdown, 25 receptions, and 272 receiving yards in nine appearances. It was a fairly quiet season for the Louisiana native, but perhaps joining a juggernaut like the Chiefs could get his game back on track.
There is no question that Landry has the potential to be a strong addition to the Chiefs. Keep in mind, this is a player who has had immense success in the NFL, as his five Pro Bowl appearances effectively display. The last few years may have been a bit difficult for him, but it seems very possible that he could heat up again while having a superstar QB like Patrick Mahomes getting him the ball. This could be an avenue worth exploring for both the player and the team because of this.
In 132 career NFL games split between the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, and Saints, Landry has recorded 38 touchdowns, 713 receptions, and 7,870 receiving yards. We will now need to wait and see if he gets the opportunity to improve upon these career stats as a member of the Chiefs next season.
