3 WRs not named OBJ the Chiefs should consider adding
2. Julio Jones
The NFL free-agent market has another former star receiver currently on it, as Julio Jones is still looking for his next destination. The 34-year-old spent last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he had two touchdowns, 24 receptions, and 299 receiving yards in 10 appearances. Overall, it was a very quiet year by his standards, and he will be aiming to have a bounce-back year in 2023 because of it. With the Chiefs needing more depth at the wide receiver position, perhaps he’s a player who should be considered.
Similar to Landry, Jones possesses a strong NFL resume. He’s had more overall success than Landry, as he is a seven-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Things have cooled down for him over these last few years, but if any quarterback in the league can get him back on track, it is fair to argue that it would be Mahomes.
Jones has had trouble finding a permanent home since his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons ended after the 2020 season. He spent the 2021 season as a Tennessee Titan and played last year with the Buccaneers. Although those separate tenures did not work particularly well for him, perhaps joining the Chiefs could be what helps him become a star again. When noting that Kansas City could get him signed at a reasonable price, they should be considering the prospect of doing this.
