Willson Contreras injury sounds legitimately terrifying

Willson Contreras left Opening Day for the St. Louis Cardinals early after taking a pitch to the knee. His description of how it felt sounds terrifying.
Willson Contreras’s debut for his former-rival St. Louis Cardinals didn’t go as expected. While Contreras batted quite well on Thursday with two hits, he took a 103 MPH pitch to the knee in the eighth inning and had to leave the game.
Contreras, going into the second game of the series, is feeling a lot better, and the early news on his injury is largely positive for the Cardinals.
Reports are that Contreras is available to pinch-hit on Saturday, and is expected to be back in the lineup as soon as Sunday.
Willson Contreras gives a very scary description of Opening Day injury
It doesn’t take a medical professional to tell you that a triple-digit MPH baseball to any part of your body is going to hurt. But it’s something most people won’t ever have to experience. Willson Contreras tried to give a sense of how it felt, explaining it to Jeff Jones on Saturday afternoon.
He said his leg went completely numb from the knee down, and there was some serious concern over how injured he might be. Considering what we know now about his status moving forward, it’s a huge win that he’s in the status he’s in.
Contreras desperately wants to get the Cards to a World Series, something he contributed to as a rookie with the Cubs. Him avoiding an extended IL stint is great news for the Cardinals who have high hopes for what he can do in replacing the spot occupied for years by longtime Cardinal Yadier Molina, who retired after the 2022 season.
