There have been lengthy winning streaks throughout all professional and collegiate sports. Which MLB team has the longest win streak in the league’s history?

The 2023 MLB season has begun. While fans want to begin to analyze and think about changes teams should make, there is still the fact that each team plays 162 games. There’s still a lot of time to go in this baseball calendar year.

As the season goes on, there are going to be countless stories, such as players in the running for their respective leagues’ MVP and Cy Young awards. Then there are streaks that players and teams go through. There is undoubtedly going to be a team that carries a double-digit winning streak at some point this season. But who has the longest winning streak in MLB history?

Who has the longest win streak in MLB history?

The longest winning streak in the modern era of baseball belongs to the 1916 New York Giants, who earned 26 consecutive victories, per MLB.com.

Even with the long winning streak that remains untouched, the Giants finished fourth in the National League with an 86-66-3 record and failed to make the World Series.

There was one team who had a legitimate threat to break the record, and that was the now-Cleveland Guardians in the 2017 season, as they held a 22 game winning streak. That season, Cleveland had an AL-best 102-60 record, but they were eliminated in the ALDS by the New York Yankees.

Here are the five longest winning streaks in MLB history:

  1. New York Giants (1916): 26
  2. Cleveland (2017): 22
  3. Chicago Cubs (1935): 21
  4. Oakland Athletics (2002): 20
  5. New York Yankees (1947) and Chicago White Sox (1906): 19

Will a team be able to reach and break the Giants’ record? We’ll find out in the near future.
