It’s pretty clear that Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks wants out of New York if his role doesn’t change dramatically.

Just three games into the New York Yankees season, and there’s chaos in the Bronx.

While the Yankees did win their Opening Series against the San Francisco Giants, Aaron Hicks didn’t play much of a role. He was booed in Opening Day introductions despite not receiving a start in the outfield. The 33-year-old emerged from his experience confused about his role moving forward, and he voiced that frustration.

“I have no idea what my role is,” Hicks told The Athletic. “It’s kind of uncertain.”

When Hicks asked if that uncertainty was frustrating, he took no prisoners.

“I just want to play. I don’t want to come off the bench and face closers all day. I want to play the field, I want to play everyday, and it’s just what I want to do. I want to start. I really don’t know what else to say,” Hicks continued.

Yankees: Aaron Hicks adds fuel to the fire

It’s been three games. Hicks will eventually play, earning his spot in the outfield alongside Aaron Judge and more of New York’s best and brightest. However, considering how he played last season, those starts could be few and far between.

Hicks recent Instagram story only added fuel to the fire.

Ah, yes. Jeter, Posada….Hicks? He definitely belongs in that conversation.

While Hicks name is squarely on the trade block after his commentary, dealing him won’t be as easy. Any interested party would likely ask New York to take on some of that contract, especially if they’re sending back anything of value.

Aaron Boone preached patience with Hicks, though he can’t like this matter being handled publicly in the press, rather than in his office.

“He’s going to play,” Boone said. “Today was just not necessarily the matchup I love. I would probably expect him to be in there the next couple of days.”

Either Hicks gets in line, or he finds himself on a different team shortly.
