Braves rumors: Who makes room for Vaughn Grissom?

Brian Snitker and Ron Washington wanted to send Vaughn Grissom a lesson? Mission accomplished.

The young shortstop is humbled, and despite hitting very well in spring training, will refine his defensive ability at the position prior to May 1. Assuming that does happen — and Grissom has played well in his previous minor-league stints — someone will have to make room on the roster. Who will it be?

The safe bet is on another infielder, as the Braves are already strapped for pitching as is with a litany of injuries to the bullpen and starting rotation. Orlando Arcia just signed a three-year contract before the start of the season, so he’s not going down. Could Ehire Adrianza be the unfortunate victim?

Adrianza brings positional flexibility to a Braves team that very much appreciates it. It’s part of the reason he made the big-league team to begin with. However, Adrianza’s bat is weak, and Arcia’s isn’t exactly great either. Eventually, Atlanta will strive for more offensively from the shortstop position, and that is something Grissom brings, even with his flaws in the field.
