Jim Nantz’s emotional sign-off to his final game as the voice of March Madness had the college basketball world teary-eyed.
Jim Nantz said farewell to college basketball on Monday night, signing off on his final March Madness broadcast after the UConn Huskies beat the San Diego State Aztecs.
“I thing I’ve learned through all of this is that everybody has a dream and everybody has a story to tell. Just try to find that story. Be kind,” Nantz said.
But that wasn’t his final message for the college basketball world. Instead, he brought it back to his iconic Masters greeting: “Hello friends.”
“Thank you for being my friend,” Nantz closed with.

Jim Nantz is one of the best. He's been the soundtrack to the NFL, March Madness and, of course, The Masters.

He couldn’t have gone out with a better call.
The good news? The sports world will still get to enjoy his work at The Masters and in the NFL.
That’s right, Nantz isn’t retiring. He’s just stepping away from college basketball so he has more time to spend with his family. His work as a broadcaster for golf and football will continue for years to come.
Nantz took over as the lead voice for CBS’s coverage of March Madness in 1991. He’s called every Final Four since, in addition to countless games from start to finish of each NCAA Tournament.
Now, it falls to Ian Eagle to take over as CBS’s No. 1.
