Rodney Terry could make a huge move by landing Max Abmas in the portal

You have to tip your cap to Rodney Terry for taking over an impossible situation at Texas this past season after the issues with Chris Beard that led to his dismissal. Terry still took over the program and ended up getting the Longhorns to a No. 2 seed in March Madness.

But now the Longhorns have some question marks for the 2023-24 season with both Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice exiting after their grad transfer year. Yes, they still have Tyrese Hunter, but the backcourt could use some depth. Abmas, as mentioned, is a Texas native, so staying in the state and ending up filling a big role with a Big 12 contender would make a lot of sense for him trying to boost his stock moving forward and, perhaps, for the NBA.

Jerome Tang can replace Markquis Nowell with Max Abmas at Kansas State

Kansas State was one of the best stories in college basketball this past season as they came out of nowhere to make a nice NCAA Tournament run and compete atop the best conference in the country. Markquis Nowell, the diminutive 5-foot-7 guard, was the spark plug for the Wildcats but now he’s entering the NBA Draft and head coach Jerome Tang needs to replace him to keep things going well at K-State.

There is going to be more than one Big 12 school after Max Abmas and, frankly, a couple from his home state might get involved. But perhaps Tang can sell Abmas on filling that Nowell role with more emphasis on scoring and really get him into the fold. It would be his backcourt and his team, which might be enough to get the Oral Roberts star to Manhattan.
