Tyreek Hill reveals he nearly went to surprise AFC destination

Tyreek Hill may play for the Miami Dolphins these days, but the former Kansas City Chiefs wideout was supposedly open to playing for the Cleveland Browns heading into last season.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had interest in playing for another AFC franchise that we did not even know about.

During an autograph session, Hill told a Cleveland Browns fan straight up that “they should’ve paid me bro, I tried to go to Cleveland, I tried that but they didn’t want me.”

While there is a chance he could have done electrifying stuff catching passes from Deshaun Watson, we will never be entirely sure if Cleveland could have made it work financially. Watson’s contract is a complete outlier in the sport, while Hill makes the most of any wide receiver in the league in terms of average annual value at a cool $30 million. It was a bold move by Hill to leave football paradise with the Kansas City Chiefs. Then again, he was always going to play third fiddle to Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in their passing game. Once Mahomes got his massive deal, it became apparent that not all three players would be paid handsomely by the Chiefs franchise. Hill going to Miami was a big decision, but it has worked out.

Even if Tua Tagovailoa is one more bad concussion away from having to hang up the spikes permanently, the Dolphins seem to have the right head coach at the helm of their operation in Mike McDaniel. While he specializes in devising creative schemes in the run game, he is a former wide receiver himself. In short, Miami has actually turned out to be a great landing spot for Hill.

As far as the Browns’ wrinkle in all this is concerned, it would have been a great move for one simple reason: The Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers all would have hated seeing him arrive into their division. While the Browns’ three big rivals all have terrific players in the back-end of their defense, containing Hill is never an easy proposition for anyone.

The next time the Dolphins play the Browns, it will be something to keep in the back of our minds.
