The Huskies of UConn are the kings of college basketball, and the college basketball world had a lot to say about the dominance they displayed in this tournament.
It got tense in the second half, but the UConn Huskies pulled away from the San Diego State Aztecs to capture their fifth title with a 76-59 victory.
Dan Hurley joins Kevin Ollie and the great Jim Calhoun as coaches to win a title for the men in white and blue. Adama Sanogo was named the game’s most outstanding player with 17 points and ten rebounds, and the Huskies capped off their dominant run with another double-digit tournament victory.
As expected, social media had a lot to say, from fans to alums and those who thought this game was boring from the beginning, only to realize the truth that while the final score may have shown domination, it was still a good game.

So great to see these referees not make the game about THEM like the refs did yesterday! #NationalChampionship

UConn. Sharpie.

Fittingly the son of the son of the coach dribbles out the clock.

Well done Coach Hurley.
There’s no better feeling than this in the world. None

UConn beating San Diego St ass fairly handedly was the most obvious thing ever. The Aztecs were a good story and were major overachievers but they stood no shot against this powerhouse Huskies team

List of blue bloods just got a little longer...congrats UConn.

UConn wins its fifth national championship. Huskies are tied with Duke and Indiana for fourth most all-time behind UCLA, Kentucky and North Carolina.

This UConn team may be one of the all-time most dominant college basketball teams. Not one team could get close.

Congrats to the Huskies!!!
UConn took down San Diego State to capture their fifth national title, and social media was buzzing
The Huskies have now won the national title four times in the state of Texas (San Antonio, Dallas, and 2X Houston), with the lone exception coming in 1999 in Florida. It’s a level of dominance since 1999 that has often gone underrated compared to the traditional “blue bloods.” No more. UConn is now a part of that fraternity.
However, not congratulating San Diego State on its remarkable run would be unfair. It may have ended with the worst possible ending, losing in the last game of the year. Still, Brian Dutcher’s team did so much this year, including knocking off the top overall seed Alabama en route to the final game and escaping Florida Atlantic with a clutch shot at the end of the game.
This night belongs to UConn and its fans. They earned this win, and their run through this unpredictable tournament was, well, unpredictable. From being written off to now standing alone atop the college basketball mountain. The University of Connecticut Huskies, the 2023 NCAA National Champions.
