LSU star Angel Reese went viral for taunting Iowa’s Caitlin Clark in the national championship game but the Hawkeyes star finally responded.

The women’s National Championship Game was a crowning moment for the LSU Tigers as they stopped the torrid run of superstar Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. But the result of the win wasn’t fans celebrating the Tigers but, rather, a divided debate on social media about LSU star Angel Reese taunting Clark.

In Iowa’s Elite Eight win over Louisville, Clark celebrated her 41-point triple-double by channeling John Cena with the “You can’t see me” taunt toward Cardinals standout Hailey Van Lith. So when LSU had the National Championship Game all but secured, Reese targeted Clark and hit her with the same taunt, talking trash and pointing to her ring finger.

There were some people on Twitter who called Reese classless while other more level-headed people saw it as two elite competitors on the hardwood talking trash, as most top-tier athletes do.

Caitlin Clark herself is among those more level-headed people.

Caitlin Clark is fine with Angel Reese trash talk and you should be too

On Tuesday, Clark broke her silence on Reese’s trash talk and said the outright truth about the matter, that the LSU star shouldn’t be criticized because it was simply two trash-talking stars going back and forth with Reese getting the last laugh and final taunt.

Save your double-standard arguments for someone else. If this were two male players, this conversation probably wouldn’t be happening at all. If it were two white females, this conversation probably wouldn’t be happening.

But Caitlin Clark herself just told you the truth about the situation. In a high-stakes, highly competitive game, these two women stars were getting after one another and getting under each other’s skin. That’s one of the most fun parts about sports, not something worthy of criticism.

If anyone tries to argue still that Angel Reese is classless, let them yell into the void. Clark just settled the matter once and for all.
