Chiefs rumors: 3 players who won’t be on roster after NFL Draft

Following the 2023 NFL Draft, we could see the Kansas City Chiefs part with a few names, some notable
Getting set for the 2023 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have a handful of clear needs. On one hand, it’s somewhat humorous to say such a phrase when you’re talking about the reigning Super Bowl Champions.
But, every team has their list of needs, regardless of how last season went. Free agency happens. Trades happen. The offseason, simply put, happens.
Kansas City will probably go hard after improving some key areas in order to make another Super Bowl run behind Patrick Mahomes and company, but after the draft, we could see the team part with some particular veteran players.
Some of these cuts will be purely based off necessity within the roster, while others could be inevitable, where the Chiefs are doing a key player right by releasing them sooner rather than later.
Which players might we see get the boot following the draft? Let’s list just a few.
Players the Chiefs could cut after the 2023 NFL Draft: Cornell Powell, WR
One of the Chiefs’ biggest needs going into the draft has to be wide receiver. Currently, the only guys on that depth chart you could argue will undoubtedly stick around are Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore.
Powell was drafted in the fifth round back in 2021, but the next couple years of his career were a rollercoaster. The Chiefs cut him in August of 2021, only to bring him back on the practice squad. In 2022, it was the exact same story: cut, re-signed to practice squad.
In February of this year, he was signed to a reserves/future contract. It’s pretty safe to say that, after two seasons with Kansas City, he could be let go. In two years, he’s only appeared in three regular season games. He’s also dealt with injury at times, but primarily being a guy the Chiefs only depend on when they have other injuries in the receiver room should indicate he is highly replaceable.
After the draft, the Chiefs will have added at least another wide receiver and, potentially, another one via the leftover free agent pool as well.
