Ed Cooley can make a big splash at Georgetown with Ugonna Onyenso

The Georgetown Hoyas have undeniably fallen from grace over the past several years as one of the more dominant historical powers in college basketball has struggled in recent seasons to even win a single game in the Big East. That led to the dismissal of program legend Patrick Ewing and has brought former Providence head coach Ed Cooley to the head of the table.

Cooley is no stranger to using the transfer portal to bolster his rosters, something he did often while with the Friars. More importantly, he also has a pipeline to Kentucky in that regard as one of Providence’s leaders this past year as Cooley led them to another March Madness berth was former Wildcat Bryce Hopkins.

Now coming to a program that simply hasn’t been acquiring the talent that they’re capable of getting in addition to needing something to jumpstart the Hoyas, it would behoove Cooley to reopen that line in the transfer portal and get a good look at Ugonna Onyenso now that he’s available.

Though Cooley wasn’t in charge of Georgetown when the Hoyas offered Onyenso as a recruit, he was indeed in on the recruiting party at Providence as the Friars also offered the big man. That’s a preexisting relationship that could prove beneficial as Onyenson has the potential to be a building block for Cooley to start with as he tries to restructure a once-proud program.
