Bears Draft Picks 2023: Every selection Chicago has in April
It was a rough debut for the Chicago Bears’ newest general manager and head coach tandem. The team looks to rebound from a last-place finish.
The season began with an unexpected 19-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers at sloppy Soldier Field. However, the Chicago Bears’ 2022 campaign morphed into 10 consecutive losses to close out the year. They wound up with the worst record in the NFL and earned the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
General manager Ryan Poles dealt away the selection to the Carolina Panthers and got plenty in return, including talented wide receiver D.J. Moore. The latter hopes to help promising quarterback Justin Fields. He set a new NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback, but Matt Eberflus’ club finished last in the league in passing yards per game.
The Bears also gave up the most points in the NFL this past season. Poles has been busy trying to plug holes via free agency. However, the real work figures to begin on April 27.

The team dealt away this year’s second-round pick to the Steelers for wide receiver Chase Claypool. Meanwhile, the Bears have the Ravens’ second-round choice via the 2022 trade of linebacker Roquan Smith to Baltimore.
Bears draft needs 2023
It’s interesting to note the needs of Eberflus’ team — via Pro Football Focus (subscription required) — are all on the offensive side of the ball. In free agency, the Bears did add defensive linemen Andrew Billings and DeMarcus Walker and linebackers T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edwards to fix their troubled defense.
- Tackle
- Center
- Interior defensive line
- Edge
- Cornerback
Thanks to Fields, Chicago did lead the NFL in rushing yards per game. Then again, the club also gave up a whopping 58 sacks, the fourth-most in the league. Poles could look for a little more help along the offensive line.
