What latest Max Fried, Raisel Iglesias injury updates mean for Braves
By Scott Rogust
The Atlanta Braves received injury updates regarding pitchers Max Fried and Raisel Iglesias on Thursday. Here’s what it means for the team.
The Atlanta Braves have had quite the start to their 2023 season, as they entered Thursday, Apr. 6, with the best record in the National League alongside the Milwaukee Brewers at 5-1. The batting order ranks near the top in all of baseball and they are a top-five pitching staff in terms of ERA (2.38).
Speaking of pitching, Atlanta is doing quite well, despite having a starter in Max Fried and reliever in Raisel Iglesias both sidelined due to hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.
On Thursday, Braves manager Brian Snitker unveiled updates on both Fried and Iglesias. For Fried, he began throwing off of a mound, but he has yet to be cleared to throw or run from the mound. As for Iglesias, while his rehabilitation is progressing, he has not begun throwing despite being on the injured list for about two weeks.

While these are not exactly great updates on both, the Braves are performing well enough to allow both players to take their time and make sure they are 100 percent to return rather than rushing it.
Fried opened up the season as Atlanta’s No. 1 starter in the rotation. But after over three innings pitched against the Washington Nationals, Fried was pulled from the game in what was later revealed to be a left hamstring strain. In that start, Fried recorded two strikeouts and allowed just one earned run on four hits.
With Fried sidelined, the team has used Jared Shuster and Bryce Elder in their starting rotation.
As for Iglesias, he has been out with right shoulder inflammation, and it sounds like it could be quite some time until he makes his return to the team.
The Braves will continue to carry on as Fried and Iglesias recover from their injuries. On Thursday, they begin a huge four-game series against the San Diego Padres.
