4 STL Cardinals who won’t be on the roster by May 1
STL Cardinals rumors: Jordan Hicks could be traded by May 1
Jordan Hicks has had a terrible start to his 2023 season. He’s thrown 4.1 innings over four games. And the results just haven’t been there, despite his electric stuff.
He’s given up eight hits and six earned runs, including one home run. He’s walked six and struck out four batters. He has a massive 13.46 ERA.
On Friday evening in a key series against the Brewers, Hicks gave up a home run to Willy Adames on a fly to right-center field. The blast traveled 402 feet at 105.5 mph. He is not as effective as the team has hoped he would be for the Cardinals.
On Opening Day, a pitch over 100 mph got out of his control, striking Willson Contreras in the kneecap. Luckily, there was no injury. But it’s just an example of how Hicks may throw with some high-speed stuff, but it’s not good for the team if he can’t be effective with it.
Hicks has no minor league options and will be a free agent in 2024.
