Pick Analysis. Dallas Cowboys. player. 123. Scouting Report. RB. Ronald Jones II. 2

The Cowboys will fill the RB2 role with someone other than Ronald Jones II

From all of the comments that we’ve heard from Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott and so on, the Cowboys’ decision to cut running back Ezekiel Elliott was not an easy one — but it was wholly necessary. The question, however, then became what the team would do at the position to supplement Tony Pollard after bringing the explosive runner back on the franchise tag and working on a long-term deal.

Since cutting Zeke, the only move that Dallas has made at running back is to sign former Bucs and Chiefs running back Ronald Jones II. Considering that he was, to put it plainly, a complete bust in Kansas City this past season, though, it’s hard to believe that he’s the team’s answer to the RB2 spot with Pollard.

Much like at wide receiver, the expectation should be that the Cowboys are going to make an addition at running back in the 2023 draft, particularly with a talented class at the position available. Moreover, it’s also possible that the team could be looking at the free agent market late in the offseason at guys like Leonard Fournette or even potential cut candidates like Dalvin Cook or Derrick Henry.

No matter the case, Jones isn’t the answer that the team is looking for, which they probably know too. I don’t expect his tenure in Dallas to last long at all and, with the team able to save $790,000 against the cap by cutting him, he should be gone as soon as they find someone who can be a legitimate No. 2 option.
