When will The Masters resume play after Saturday weather suspension? [Updated]
The Masters was rainy on Saturday for the conclusion of the second and start of the third round. Play was suspended for weather, but when will it resume?
When trees fell in high winds and rainy conditions starting on Friday, the decision was made to halt play at The Masters. Despite rain and cold coming to Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday, they resumed play then, finishing the second round and then quickly beginning the third round. However, they were unable to finish before the weather became untenable.
At 3:15 p.m. ET, play was suspended at The Masters with rain and water collecting too much on the fairways and greens around the course and, essentially, becoming too detrimental to the players and patrons on the grounds.
So with play suspended, golf fans are wondering when The Masters will resume after Saturday’s decision during the third round with Brooks Koepka still leading the way.
Masters play suspended on Saturday: When will play resume?
Unfortunately, play at The Masters will not be taking place anymore on Saturday afternoon for this week’s tournament. With the decision to suspend play also came the announcement that it would not resume on Saturday either.
Play is scheduled to continue in the third round on Sunday morning, though official start times have not been announced. Luckily, the weather forecast suggests that we should have smooth sailing on Sunday for the conclusion of the third round and perhaps the start of the final round.
Update: 5:00 p.m. ET – The Masters released an official statement on Saturday afternoon that play will resume at 8:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. Coverage will be on CBS. Additionally, they hope to begin the final round at 12:30 p.m. ET with pairs (instead of threesomes) going off the tee at No. 1 and No. 10. The normal 2-7 p.m. ET coverage window for CBS will still be in place.
Updated Masters weather forecast for Sunday, April 9
Though it is expected to still have some wind and relative cold, Sunday’s forecast for Augusta looks favorable. There are projected to be early clouds but there should be sunshine coming through in the early afternoon. The high is also supposed to climb back up a bit to 63° and with winds coming from the NE at 10-20mph.
The big question doesn’t appear to be whether the weather will be good enough to play on Sunday at this tournament but, rather, whether or not the heavy rainfall on Saturday will delay getting the course ready for the players to get back out there.
