Braves rumors: 3 moves Atlanta must avoid despite injury woes
By Mark Powell
The Atlanta Braves cannot catch a break in the injury department, and they just lost three out of four games to the San Diego Padres.
The Braves have had a rough go with injuries lately. Despite an incredible start to the season, the likes of Max Fried, Kyle Wright and Michael Harris II are on the injured list. The reinforcements coming in, unlike the last few seasons, haven’t performed up to par thus far.
Nonetheless, it’s a long season. Atlanta shouldn’t overreact, as their stars will eventually come off the injured list. In the meantime, they still feature a lineup with Austin Riley, Ronald Acuña, Matt Olson and more. They’ll be just fine.
As the Cincinnati Reds come to down for an early-season series, Alex Anthopoulos should stay off the phone for now. Patience is key in April.
Atlanta Braves should not call up Vaughn Grissom…yet
Vaughn Grissom is raking in the minor leagues right now, making it all the more tempting for Atlanta to call him up to the majors, especially as their offense goes through a few bumps in the road. Nonetheless, there’s a reason Grissom wasn’t on Atlanta’s big-league roster to begin the season, and those issues still persist.
Grissom needs to work on his defensive ability. If the Braves called him up right now, he’d be an excellent designated hitter, and that’s about it. Orlando Arcia and Ozzie Albies have played well to start the year, and Grissom’s two primary positions are shortstop or second base. So, where would he play?
Atlanta has higher hopes for Grissom than to be a glorified designated hitter. If he’s as good as the organization thinks he is, then Grissom is an All-Star caliber shortstop in the making. He just needs some more reps to get to that level.
