MLB Rumors: What’s going on with Adam Duvall’s injury?

The Boston Red Sox swept the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, but unfortunately that good news must be taken with a grain of salt. Boston outfielder Adam Duvall, who has been one of their better offseason signings early this season, appeared to injure his wrist while making a diving catch in the bottom of the ninth inning.

“He almost made a spectacular play,” left fielder Rob Refsnyder said. “That’s a big guy out there. I don’t think people really realize how big he is and how fast he moves. Looks like he was fully extended. … He’s all-around a really, really good ballplayer so we’re all hoping for the best.”

Per Alex Cora, he received x-rays on that wrist. The results are unknown right now, but the Sox are bracing for the worst just in case. Per Christopher Smith of MassLive, Boston has Bobby Dalbec at the ready in case an injured list stint is needed for Duvall. Given we’re only a week into the season, it’s a safe bet that the Sox will play it safe in hopes of positive long-term health for a veteran player like Duvall.

Duvall is hitting just a shade under .500 early this season, with four home runs and 14 RBIs to boot. He’d be a massive loss for a Red Sox team just starting to find its stride.
