USMNT news: Marsch turns down Foxes, Milan want Balogun, Pepi in limbo
Fans that want to see Jesse Marsch become the next head coach of the USMNT received a boost when the news broke that the former Leeds United manager had turned down the Leicester job.
Other news regarding the Stars and Stripes is that AC Milan is interested in Folarin Balogun. The forward has been linked with switching his international allegiance to the USMNT from England.
Ricardo Pepi also seems to not be on the same page with Augsburg regarding where he will be playing next season.
USMNT news: Jesse Marsch says no to Leicester
Since being sacked by Leeds, Marsch has now turned down two Premier League jobs. He said no to Southampton and now Leicester City. The Telegraph has reported that “Marsch has withdrawn from the recruitment process to appoint the next Leicester City manager, having been the frontrunner to take over the relegation-threatened club.
“(The) American was close to (an) agreement but took (the) decision after a conversation with his coaching staff on Saturday evening.”
Marsch had already said no to Southampton due to the length of the contract. Joining the Foxes would be a risk as they are currently in the relegation zone and could be playing in the Championship next season. Although, it was thought that Marsch was keen to help them back up if they were relegated.
Marsch’s former club Leeds are also in danger of going down as they were defeated 5-1 by Crystal Palace. Tyler Adams is missing due to injury but the USMNT duo of Weston McKennie and Brenden Aaronson both started the game against the Eagles.
Now that he has walked away from two club jobs, Marsch may feel it is time to take charge of the USMNT ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which his country is co-hosting.
USMNT news: Folarin Balogun on Milan shortlist
There has been a lot of speculation about Balogun’s international future but his club future is also up in the air. Balogun scored a last-minute equalizer for Stade de Reims against Brest at the weekend.
The Italian website Calciomercato has revealed that “more than 30 million euros, on the other hand, would be needed to secure Folarin Balogun.”
However, the article goes on to say that signing the player from his parent club Arsenal would be difficult as it said “taking him away from London is half a Mission Impossible.”
USMNT news: Where will Pepi go next?
According to Fabrizio Romano “Despite Augsburg director and coach both stated they count on Ricardo Pepi for next season, the player confirms: “I’m not gonna stay at Augsburg — no chance”. Pepi wants a new challenge. Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven are both keen on signing USMNT striker.”
Pepi has scored ten goals in 22 appearances for FC Groningen in the Eredivisie this season and looks to favor a move to one of the top sides in the division. Although, it looks like there could be a standoff between the player and his parent club Augsburg.
