Biggest mistakes in Mel Kiper’s latest NFL Mock Draft: 3. Tyree Wilson will be drafted before Nolan Smith

Both Tyree Wilson and Nolan Smith are quality draft prospects who will almost certainly be selected in Round 1. The problem with Kiper’s most recent mock draft is that he has the edge rushers going off the board in the wrong order.

Wilson’s draft stock took a hit when he suffered a foot injury during his final season at Texas Tech. The news that he’s already medically cleared has alleviated concerns around the league. Now, NFL executives can salivate over Wilson’s freakish length from the defensive end position.

6-foot-6 edge rushers with 36-inch arms don’t grow on trees. Throw in the fact that Wilson also carries 271 pounds with quality speed and it’s easy to understand why he has star potential at the next level.

Smith is a good prospect in his own right, but he’s better suited to play as an outside linebacker at the next level than a traditional edge rusher. That’s the biggest reason why Wilson is going to hear his name called first on draft day. There won’t be a ton of distance between the two picks, but the former Red Raider will go ahead of the former Georgia star.
