MLB Insider: Most likely replacements for Oneil Cruz, Michael Harris II
How the Atlanta Braves will replace Michael Harris II
Fortunately for the Atlanta Braves, Michael Harris II’s injury is not like Duvall’s or Cruz’s. He’s not expected to be out long-term and he has even said that the injury is not serious. With it being early in the season, he wanted to be cautious.
This means that the Braves can rely on their internal options to fill in for Harris. Both the team and Harris are optimistic that he won’t need more than the minimum number of days on the IL to return, which would mean he’s eligible to return on April 17. The team, however, does not want to rush him.
But this is not a case where the Braves will seek outside answers, not someone like New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks. That would change if Harris goes on the IL once again with a back injury and is forced to miss meaningful time. Then all options would be on the table.
But both Harris and the Braves will avoid that scenario — and his presence in center field, combined with the rest of their young talent, is a big reason why they are such a formidable team in 2023 and beyond.
