Former Cubs draft pick John Mincone — a player who readily admits he never pitched in the major leagues — criticized Dansby Swanson for leaving a game with exhaustion.

Dansby Swanson’s day started at 4 a.m., when he went with his wife to the hospital for what could be career-changing knee surgery. Swanson’s wife, Mallory, is a professional soccer player who plays for the USWNT. She suffered a torn patella tendon just prior to the World Cup.

Later that day, Swanson’s Cubs had a game in Seattle, which he attended and recorded four hits. In the sixth inning, Swanson took himself out of the contest due to exhaustion.

“She’s all right,” Dansby Swanson said, per The Athletic. “Everybody knows it’s a pretty tough and heartbreaking situation. I’m heartbroken for her, just a lot of tears and sadness. Two things can be true at the same time: We can be sad and upset, but we can also understand God’s bigger picture and plans. We’ll get through it together.”

Swanson later suggested that he felt he would have hurt the team had he played another inning.

Former Cubs draft pick has an issue with Dansby Swanson

Former Chicago Cubs draft pick John Mincone, who was taken in the 11th round in 2009, had an issue with Swanson caring for his wife in a traumatic moment.

“I’m sorry, but Dansby Swanson leaving a game early bc he says he hasn’t ate or slept in 2 days leading up to his wife’s surgery is absolutely wild.. it was a Patella tendon surgery.. like take a nap wake up fixed kinda surgery.. I can’t believe that’s a real story,” Mincone wrote on social media.

Swanson’s personal life has to come first sometimes, despite what he does for a living. Yes, knee surgery isn’t that big of deal these days, but his wife Mallory is clearly going through a tough time given the stress and training needed to compete at a World Cup-level. This is their life, it’s unfair to judge.

Not to mention, Swanson played most the game and recorded four hits! This is a nothing sandwich.
