7.  Jake Scott

Some defensive players just have a nose for the football. Such was the case for former University of Georgia product Jake Scott. Incredibly, he was a seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 1970.

He patrolled Don Shula’s secondary for six seasons and was part of five playoff teams and three consecutive trips to the Super Bowl. The Dolphins fell to the Cowboys in New Orleans (VI), but that was followed by a pair of Lombardi Trophies. Miami achieved perfection in 1972 (VII) and were a dominant champion in 1973 (VIII).

Scott did not miss a game during his six-year stay in South Florida. There were 35 interceptions and seven fumble recoveries. He picked off two passes in Super Bowl VII against Washington and that earned him game MVP honors. He also managed two interceptions in the 1971 playoff and finished with seven takeaways in 10 postseason outings with Miami.

His career ended with a three-year stint in Washington (1976-78). That is certainly ironic considering arguably his greatest moment in the NFL came against that franchise on Super Sunday. Scott totaled 20 takeaways with the club, as well as an interception in a playoff loss to the Vikings in 1976.
