Everything Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis said about the stomp

Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis both commented on the stomp that got Green ejected in Game 2.

In Game 2 against the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was ejected after he stomped on Domantas Sabonis, who Green later explained grabbed his leg.

Sabonis was on the ground at the time, taking Green’s foot to the torso area. Sabonis underwent X-rays after the game to assess damage to his ribs and lungs, but those came back without issue.

Green hasn’t been suspended yet, but it’s safe to assume the league will investigate the incident and consider a punishment.

In the press conference after the game, here’s what Green said about the stomp:

"“My leg got grabbed. Second time in two nights. Referees just watch it. I gotta land my foot somewhere and I’m not the most flexible person so it’s not stretching that far… I can only step so far pulling my leg away.”"

Asked about what the explanation from the referees was on why he was ejected, he said, “The explanation was I stomped too hard.”

Green went on to explain that he was frustrated in part because his leg got grabbed in Game 1 as well. He explained that it was Malik Monk who grabbed his leg in Game 1.

"“But it was Monk last game right on the baeline under the rim. So, either you’re going to stop it — John Goble was looking at Monk hold my leg the last game and just let it go, and Zach [Zarba] clearly was watching my leg get held this game and let it go. So I guess ankle grabbing is OK.”"

Talking about riling up the Kings crowd as he was ejected, Green said, “I was just having fun. It’s a fun game, fun atmosphere to play in.”

Green’s teammate, Klay Thompson, also came to his defense, much like Shaquille O’Neal did in the postgame show.

"“It’s playoff basketball,” Sabonis said. “Look at the fans, this is it. We’re here to fight. Every time we step on the floor we’re gonna give everything for our teammates and the franchise. We’re both fighting for the rebound. We fell on each other, stuff happens, it’s basketball, we gotta move on, next play.”"
