The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t been particularly loud with many of their offseason moves, but the franchise has been wise in their dealings. Such was the case on Tuesday when they pulled off a high-upside trade for former All-Pro wide receiver Allen Robinson with the Rams.
In the deal, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are getting the 29-year-old wideout for a seventh-round pick swap and while only taking on $5 million of his $15 million salary. That’s a move that fills a need that Pittsburgh was expected to address in the first two days of the 2023 NFL Draft and opens them up a bit more next week when they come on the clock.

Darnell Wright can solve a ton of problems on the Steeler offensive line
The Steelers have been tyring to solidify their offensive line for some time and have done some good work in doing so. Chuks Okorafor isn’t an All-Pro level talent, but he’s a solid player who can play on either side at tackle. Meanwhile, additions such as James Daniels, Mason Cole, and 2023 signing Isaac Seumalo, previously with the Eagles.
Having said that, the other tackle spot with Okorafor has still been an issue. Dan Moore Jr. played often on the left side in Pittsburgh a season ago and, frankly, left a lot to be desired. He’s still young as a 2021 fourth-round pick but it does seem that the Steelers will be looking to upgrade there early in the 2023 draft.
That’s where Darnell Wright can enter the equation — and when he does, you can’t miss him. The Tennessee product comes in at 6-foot-5, 333 pounds and as an absolute mauler. Given his size, he’s not going to wow anyone with his athleticism, but he’s an absolute force with good technique with his hand and footwork on the edge as a protector.
Wright, largely due to the lack of quickness, profiles as a right tackle in the NFL. That works for Pittsburgh, though, as Okorafor could move back to the left side and still be an asset for the offense while getting stronger overall. For a team clearly trying to give Kenny Pickett every chance to succeed, this makes all the sense in the world.
