Former Braves OF Robbie Grossman has struggled mightily for Rangers

Unlike the A’s, the Texas Rangers have come out of the gates quite hot, moving to 12-6 on the year after a win on Wednesday in Kansas City. The organization was aggressive in improving the roster this offseason and it’s clearly paying early dividends.

One of the newcomers to Arlington, however, has not been contributing to that as former Braves outfielder and platoon man Robbie Grossman is off to an abysmal start to his Rangers tenure.

Grossman has actually seen the field quite a bit for Texas early in the season, appearing in 15 of the team’s 18 games to this point. The issue has been his overall lack of production. He’s slashing just .170/.259/.255 on the season with one home run, one double and only six RBI. In fact, he has just eight total hits in 47 at-bats in the 2023 season.

The 33-year-old switch-hitter was far from a star in his one half-season with Atlanta in 2022 as he hit .217 with a .675 OPS in 46 games for the Braves, but he did provide at least a serviceable option for the club when he was in the lineup.

While there’s plenty of time for him to turn it around, that’s not what he’s been for the Rangers to this point.
