Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said that he is rooting for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to get a lucrative contract.

The quarterback market has only increased with each passing year. Earlier this offseason, quarterbacks like Daniel Jones and Derek Carr received $100+ million contracts with their respective teams.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who had not received a new contract, instead had the non-exclusive franchise tag placed on him. With that, Jackson had the ability to negotiate an offer sheet with interested teams. But, no team has approached Jackson to do so.

This past week, the quarterback market exploded, as the Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Hurts to a five-year, $255 million contract extension. Hurts is now the highest paid player in NFL history. Now, quarterbacks seeking a new deal will be looking to beat Hurts’ contract.

While appearing on “The Adam Schefter Podcast,” Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was asked if he pays attention to a quarterback like Jackson and what he is dealing with in regards to getting a new contract. Prescott said that he is rooting for Jackson to get paid, and top Hurts’ contract.

“I support everybody, and I support those guys getting their money and doing that. Hopefully, he’s next, and he tops Jalen, and that’s just the way it goes. It’ll happen for him,” Prescott said, h/t The Comeback.

Last September, an ESPN report indicated that Jackson had turned down a five-year, $250 million contract from the Ravens, where $200 million would be guaranteed in total, with $133 million  guaranteed at signing.

However, as NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport pointed out during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” $175 million would have been guaranteed due to injury and that the $200 million would have been guaranteed for “skill, injury and cap in March 2026.”

On March 27 during the annual league meetings, Jackson tweeted that he had requested a trade from the Ravens back on March 2, saying “the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value.”

Things only got more interesting recently, as the Ravens signed former New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year, $15 million contract. It was then reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Jackson was “openly recruiting” Beckham to join him in Baltimore. That update seemingly confirmed that Beckham will have Jackson throwing him the football in 2023.

Jackson reportedly won’t report for Baltimore’s voluntary offseason workouts, as he hasn’t signed his non-exclusive franchise tag, per NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

As for Prescott, his four-year, $160 million contract signed back in 2021 will run out after the 2024 season. So, he will be in line for a new deal in the very near future.

With the 2023 season over four months away, the NFL world will be waiting to see if Jackson and the Ravens will reach an agreement on a new contract. Whatever happens, Jackson has Prescott in his corner.
