Domantas Sabonis suffered a chest contusion after getting stomped on by Draymond Green. Will he be available to play in Game 3 against the Warriors?

The Sacramento Kings have a 2-0 lead on the Warriors but the altercation between Domantas Sabonis and Draymond Green has been the biggest talking point coming out of Game 2. In case you somehow missed the kerfuffle (or the digital kerfuffle that followed as every fan and media member weighed in — in the third quarter of Game 2, Sabonis was knocked to the floor chasing a rebound in the paint. He appeared to roll to protect his head and as he did, he wrapped his body around Draymond Green’s ankle. Draymond pulled his leg free and then stomped on Sabonis’ chest before running back up court.

Sabonis was assessed a flagrant 1. Green was given a flagrant 2 and ejected. He also spent several minutes loudly antagonizing Kings’ fans as officials reviewed the play.

Green claimed he needed an X-ray for because of ankle pain after the incident but he won’t be available no matter how his ankle is feeling, as the league suspended him for one game for his conduct. Sabonis also was given chest X-rays and his status for Game 3 is up in the air.

Will Domantas Sabonis be available for Game 3 against the Warriors?

Sabonis is listed as questionable in the official NBA injury report, with a chest contusion from that Draymond stomp. He is the only regular rotation player for the Kings in the injury report. On the Warriors’ side, Draymond will be out serving his suspension. Gary Payton II, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins are listed as questionable but will presumably be available.

Sabonis is a central piece of the Kings’ free-wheeling offensive attack and he’s been incredibly effective against the Warriors — averaging 18.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game through the first two games of this series. The Kings are extremely small without him and if he’s out or hampered it could be just the opening the Warriors need to get themselves back in the series.
