3. Jose Quintana left the Cardinals to start the season on 60-day injured with the Mets

Quintana came to the Cardinals in a deal along with Chris Stratton for Johan Oviedo and Malcolm Nunez.

Quintana was 3-2 in 12 games for the Cardinals. He threw in 62.2 innings and 48 strikeouts. He started the Cardinals Wild Card game, throwing 5.1 innings, striking out three batters, and giving up no runs.

Many Cardinals fans hoped Quintana would return to the club. Instead, he signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Mets. Since the signing, Quintana has been diagnosed with a left rib fracture and placed on the 60-day injured list.

Quintana joins Justin Verlander and Carlos Carrasco as starting rotation members on the injured list. Staff ace Max Scherzer has been suspended ten games without pay for the use of an apparent sticky substance. In a game Wednesday against the Dodgers.

The Mets’ pitching staff is about to get a huge test.

While it was disappointing to see Quintana leave the Cardinals after such a beneficial stint, it does seem like the president of baseball operations, John Mozeliak, knew what he was doing in not signing the lefty arm. Here’s hoping he can heal and return to the mound at some point this season.
