USMNT news: Mexico draw, Pulisic bench, Carter-Vickers treatment table
This week’s USMNT news includes the Stars and Stripes’ draw with Mexico. Christian Pulisic was left on the bench for Chelsea in their loss to Real Madrid and there are injury concerns for Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers.
USMNT news: Stars and Stripes draw with Mexico
The USMNT played out a 1-1 draw with Mexico in a friendly at the State Farm Stadium. Mexico took the lead through Uriel Antuna after a mix-up between Kellyn Acosta and Aaron Long. A quick counterattack late on after Mexico had just hit the woodwork was finished off by Jesus Ferreira.
It was a good run out for Anthony Hudson’s side which was mostly made up of MLS players. Sergino Dest got some valuable game time that he is not currently getting at AC Milan. Dest also played a part in the equalizer.
Speaking after the game Hudson was quoted on ESPN saying “I think the five-game unbeaten streak is nice, it’s obviously very nice, but the next time we play Mexico again, all of that goes out the window.”
The USMNT play Mexico next in the Nations League semifinal which will be on June 16.
USMNT news: Christian Pulisic left on the bench again
Christian Pulisic was again left on the bench for Chelsea as they fell out of the Champions League in a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid. The USMNT forward was left out for both legs which is a massive disappointment for him. He did feature in their loss to Brighton between the fixtures but did not have the best of games and was taken off after 56 minutes.
Under Frank Lampard in his first stint in charge at Stamford Bridge, the American flourished. There was much optimism for Pulisic when Lampard returned but as of yet these hopes are yet to come to fruition. The club is in a bit of a state at the moment, currently 11th in the Premier League.
There has been much speculation that Pulisic should move on from Chelsea in order to get more game time. The recent weeks have shown that it is imperative that he must find a new club soon.
Chelsea plays Brentford next on Wednesday, April 26 and Pulisic is running out of time to impress at the Blues.
USMNT news: Cameron Carter-Vickers could be out for the season
Cameron Carter-Vickers has been instrumental for Celtic this season. He has played in 28 of their Scottish Premiership games and helped them to gain a 12-point advantage over their bitter rivals Ranger at the top of the division.
However, according to the Daily Record, “The centre-back has been hampered by a knee injury and could go under the knife before the end of the campaign.”
It would be a massive blow for the Hoops’ backline if Carter-Vickers were to need surgery. The league title is in the bag but they also have a Scottish Cup semi-final match against Rangers on April 30. A fixture that Ange Postecoglou would need his star defender for.
