Micah Parsons comes at Cowboys fans with draft day receipts
By John Buhler
Let’s just say the Dallas Cowboys made a fantastic pick with former Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Although he has quickly become a fan favorite, not everybody was enamored with the Dallas Cowboys‘ first-round selection of Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons two years ago in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The talent was always there for the Harrisburg, PA native. I mean, he wore the iconic No. 11 jersey at Penn State for a reason, with LaVar Arrington’s blessing, of course. Stix City is a place after all. However, Parsons opting out of the COVID-shortened 2020 college season rubbed some people the wrong way. He only played two years of college ball at a position the draft no longer values.
So when Peter Schrager brought up what some members of Cowboys Nation had to say about Parsons’ controversial draft pick two years ago on Good Morning Football, you better believe Parsons kept some of those receipts.
While the fans doubting the Parsons pick were pretty consistent on their reasonings, whether that be a preference to former Northwestern book-end tackle Rashawn Slater, who also opted out, as well as not forecasting a slight position change in Parsons’ future, they were wrong. It’s okay to be wrong, just like it is okay for Parsons to continue playing with a boulder-sized chip on his shoulder.
Now entering year three out of Penn State, Parsons is one of the best defenders in all of football.
Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons kept draft receipts from those who doubted him
Look. There is nothing wrong with bulletin-board material. It is important for people to find some methods of motivation, wherever they can get it from. The material the haters so often provide are typically low-hanging fruit. However, it is especially toxic to swim in those shark-infested waterways that have only been further compromised by a persistent outpouring of nuclear waste.
Although the Cowboys have never won squat at any point in Parsons’ lifetime, his undeniable talent could be a force to help change that. Even if he is only the next DeMarcus Ware, then we are talking about a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in the front seven of the Cowboys’ defense. Either way, Parsons is a force to be reckoned with, wreaking havoc on NFL offenses everywhere.
Frankly, all we can ask is for a clean bill of health and for Parsons to continue to keep his head on straight. If those two things continue to happen for him, then we as fans of this sport are in for a real treat over the next decade. You win and lose as a team, but Dallas has someone potentially transformative in the middle of their defense for the next eight years. They nailed the No. 12 pick!
Slater may turn out to be a fine player for the Los Angeles Chargers, but Parsons is already a star.
