MLS news: Almada to Napoli, Cifuentes to Brighton, Buchanan to Inter
Recent MLS news on the transfer front includes Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada attracting interest from Napoli, whilst Brighton has joined the list of admirers for LAFC’s Jose Cifuentes and former New England Revolution player Tajon Buchanan has been linked with Inter Milan.
MLS news: Napoli interested in Thiago Almada
It is only a matter of time before World Cup winner Thiago Almada departs MLS for Europe. There has been a lot of speculation about where the Argentine’s next destination will be with Italian side Napoli the latest team to show interest.
MLS insider Tom Bogert has reported that a “Source can confirm Napoli are indeed interested in Atlanta United star Thiago Almada… but I’m told no deal is close. (Reports in Italy saying it’s done). Won’t be the first type of report with Almada. His name will be mentioned all summer.”
Almada was at Velez Sarsfield before joining Atlanta and this season in MLS he has scored four goals and made five assists in just six games. He is a player whose talent will no doubt get him to the highest level.
Moving to Napoli would be a tempting move for anyone from Argentina. The club is synonymous with Diego Maradona who made over 200 appearances for the club. Napoli is also going to wrap up the Serie A title this year as they are currently 17 points clear of Lazio who are in second place.
MLS news: Brighton join the race for Jose Cifuentes
Brighton may have lost in the semi-finals of the FA Cup last weekend to Manchester United on penalties. However, they are still on the hunt for European soccer for next season and could be the next club for LAFC’s Jose Cifuentes.
According to Transfermarkt Brighton has joined the race to sign the Ecuadorian. He has also been linked with Leeds United, Rangers and Espanyol.
Moving to Brighton looks like it would be the most attractive option. The club are now eighth in the Premier League and have been known for developing South American talent. Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo are both currently in their ranks and being tipped for big transfers.
MLS news: Tajon Buchanan linked with Inter Milan
Buchanan made 57 appearances in MLS for New England Revolution before joining Club Brugge. The Canadian has since been in impressive form for the Belgian side and has been linked with Italian giants Inter Milan.
Transfermarkt has revealed that there have been rumors that Buchanan could be joining Inter. The club are currently sixth in Serie A and are only two points off a Champions League place. Buchanan has played in European soccer’s premier competition but his Brugge side went out in the last 16. Inter are still in the tournament and face their city rivals AC Milan in the semifinals.
At Inter he would expect to win trophies and as they compete in one of Europe’s top five leagues it would be a no-brainer for Buchanan to challenge himself at a higher level.
