Jordan Love’s optimism can be fueled by one jump he has over Aaron Rodgers
By Ryan Heckman
Sooner or later before the 2023 season, the Packers will officially go from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love
On the same day it was reported that the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets are reopening trade talks about Aaron Rodgers, we thought it might be a good idea to give Packer fans more reason to be optimistic about Jordan Love.
After all, while Rodgers is technically still a Packer, he’s going to be traded eventually…right?
Well, regardless of whether or not Rodgers is traded, it feels like that relationship has ended. The Packers are going to move on with Love as their starting quarterback.
Many Green Bay fans have done a good job convincing themselves that Love is going to be the future of that team, but for fans who may have a hard time being able to buy in, the 2020 first-round pick does have one advantage over Rodgers as he goes into his (presumed) first season as an official starter.
Jordan Love has a jump on Aaron Rodgers when it comes to getting an official opportunity as the starting quarterback in Green Bay
Back in 2005, Rodgers was, of course, a first-round pick out of California. However, he didn’t get an opportunity to start his first game until Year 4, when the 2008 campaign rolled around.
Love, on the other hand, had a chance to be the team’s starter in Year 2 when Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19. Heck, if we want to get really technical, we could dive deeper. Through his first three seasons, Rodgers only threw a total of 59 passes in regular season games. Love has thrown 83 passes during the regular season, by contrast.
Getting that first start under his belt back in 2021, and against the Kansas City Chiefs nonetheless, was big for Love. Then, he continued to ride the bench as the team’s backup for the next season.
Having a taste of what it’s like to be a starter, and be forced right back to the bench, has to leave Love with quite the itch to scratch. Taking all of the experience he’s had sitting and learning, and putting it into this coming season should give Packer fans more than just a little hope.
Is Love a sure thing to replace Rodgers for the next decade-plus? Of course not, but for any Packer fans hitting the panic button, hopefully, this offers a bit of hope. Let’s give the kid a chance and see what happens.
