Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones — a Baseball Hall of Famer — know he’d have no chance against the likes of Spencer Strider in today’s game.

Spencer Strider came oh so close to making history on Monday night, but an error from his own teammate in Matt Olson unfortunately robbed him of that opportunity. Of course, that happens in baseball. Olson has been a tremendous get for Atlanta since they acquired him from the Oakland Athletics.

The Braves are one of the better teams in the National League, and all of baseball for that matter. Much of that has to do with the maturation of players like Strider and Michael Harris II, which allows them to extend their current core in-house, rather than reach for certain players in free agency. If anything, they can pick and choose.

Atlanta is an organization which is famous for that. Chipper Jones knows this, but he always understands how the game has changed. He’d have a rough time hitting Strider these days.

Braves news: Would Chipper Jones struggle against Spencer Strider?

No player is perfect, not even Strider in what would have been his first career perfect game. As impressive as Strider’s stuff is, very few players in the current game have the patience of Chipper Jones, who could hit to all fields and slashed .303/.401/.529 for his career and won an MVP while being elected to eight All-Star Games.

Chipper has spent enough time around Braves camp of late, specifically spring training, to know just how electric Strider can be, though. While his time is primarily spent helping Atlanta’s young sluggers, Strider’s fastball and breaking pitches hit the catcher’s mitt a little differently than other pitchers.

Were it not for Max Fried, Strider would be the unquestioned ace of the Braves staff. He still may be in the near future.
