Recent Premier League news includes Mauricio Pochettino to take over at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur has sacked interim manager Cristian Stellini and Harry Kane has been linked with Manchester United.

Premier League news: Mauricio Pochettino to Chelsea

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly ready to take over at Chelsea. The appointment may not go down well with Spurs fans who had the Argentine lead them in many fierce fixtures against the Blues. However, he has been out of work since leaving PSG last year and from a footballing perspective looks to be a very good fit at Stamford Bridge.

According to Fabrizio Romano “Negotiations entering final stages — still waiting for a formal contract to be sent, checked and signed. Pochettino would join in June, NOT now.”

This would give Frank Lampard until the end of the season and Pochettino would start afresh in the Summer. His first task would be cutting the squad to a manageable level. Under Todd Boehly, Chelsea has spent a lot of money on signings but still lacks a striker.

Signing a goalscorer would be another priority under Pochettino. Harry Kane flourished under him at Spurs but their chairman Daniel Levy would unlikely sell him to a rival. Pochettino also worked with Kylian Mbappe at PSG and Chelsea, one of the only clubs in the World that could afford the Frenchman.

It would also be interesting to see how Pochettino’s arrival will affect Chelsea’s USMNT player Christian Pulisic who has been linked with a move away from the club.

Premier League news: Spurs sack Cristian Stellini

Whilst a former Tottenham manager is getting a new job, their current interim head coach, Cristian Stellini has just got the sack. This comes after the club’s disastrous 6-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League which was a massive blow to Spurs’ ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

A statement on Tottenham Hotspur’s official website from Levy said, “Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.

“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff… Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect.”

Mason took charge of Spurs in 2021 after Jose Mourinho was sacked. The former Spurs player probably should have taken charge after Antonio Conte was shown the door this season. Replacing Conte with his assistant Stellini and expecting different results was ludicrous.

Premier League news: Haryy Kane to Manchester united

As Tottenham are in disarray, it is likely that Kane may try and force his way out of the club again. The Daily Telegraph has reported that “Manchester United have started to make attempts to find out what it will take to sign Harry Kane with expectation increasing that the striker will not sign a new Tottenham Hotspur contract this summer.”

The last time Kane tried to move away from Spurs it was to Manchester City. However, Pep Guardiola’s side now has Erling Haaland so a move to the red side of Manchester would make more sense. Eric ten Hag’s side has already won the EFL Cup this year and is in the FA Cup final. Joining United would give Kane a chance to finally win some trophies.
