Mr. Irrelevant odds (Who will be selected with last pick in NFL Draft?)
The first round of the NFL Draft is in the books, but that doesn’t mean that the betting has to come to an end. We still have two more days of draft action, and the final bet we can cash is one on the final pick of the draft.
If you don’t already know, the final pick in the NFL Draft is dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant”.
Brock Purdy was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he went on to have an extremely successful season for them and is now in the mix to be the 49ers starting quarterback moving forward.
The 2017 edition of Mr. Irrelevant, Chad Kelly, is no longer in the NFL for the time being but went on to lead the Toronto Argonauts to a win in the Grey Cup. So, it may not be so bad to be the final pick of the draft after all.
This year, the Houston Texans hold on to the final pick in the draft. Unless they trade it before the end, they will be the ones who will get to choose who “Mr. Irrelevant” will be.
Let’s take a look at the betting odds for what position Mr. Irrelevant will be.
Mr. Irrelevant odds
Defensive lineman is the betting favorite to be the position of the 2023 Mr. Irrelevant, but that honor hasn’t been given to a defensive lineman since 2011 when Cheta Ozougwu out of Rice was selected by the Texans with the final pick of the draft.
Will history repeat itself with the Texans once again selecting a defensive lineman with the final pick?
Of the last 10 years of the draft, a tight end has been the most frequently picked position. Over that span, three tight ends have been selected as Mr. Irrelevant with the most recent being Caleb Wilson from UCLA in 2019.
This is a deep draft class of tight ends, so I’ll go with it being a tight end once again at +500 odds.
