2023 NFL Power Rankings after NFL Draft: What the league looks like right now
Free agency has been reduced to a crawl and the draft has concluded. A very early look at all 32 teams and where they rank in the 2023 NFL Power Rankings.
It’s been quite a busy offseason for all 32 NFL franchises. From a slew of free-agent additions and departures to some key veterans being acquired in trades. There were 259 selections made during the NFL draft’s three-day process in Kansas City.
Of course, it’s the home of the defending Super Bowl champions and a team that has played on Super Sunday in three of the past five seasons. Not surprisingly, the Chiefs own the top spot in these early NFL Power Rankings. What about the other 31 clubs?
NFL Power Rankings 2023, Post-NFL Draft: No. 32-29
32. . . . Arizona Cardinals. 32. team
It’s been a forgettable offseason for a team that won only four games in 2022. Former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is the new head coach. Quarterback Kyler Murray is on the mend after tearing an ACL late last year.
He wanted the team to select Ohio State tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and it happened. Busy GM Monti Ossenfort picked up a first-round pick and two third-round choices in 2024.
Indianapolis Colts. 31. team. 46. . .
General manager Chris Ballard stood pat on the first night of the draft and opted for talented but somewhat raw Anthony Richardson. He could sit behind Gardner Minhsew, late of the Eagles, and quite familiar with new head coach Shane Steichen’s system.
Ballard wound up with 12 picks, equally split between offense and defense. Steichen inherits the team’s season-ending seven-game losing streak.
. . Chicago Bears. 30. team. 57.
A year ago, the Bears brought in a new general manager and a new head coach. The first season of the Ryan Poles/Matt Eberflus regime resulted in the NFL’s worst record (3-14) and a season-ending 10-game losing streak.
Chicago dealt the first overall pick to Carolina for wide receiver D.J. Moore and much more. The Bears allowed the most points in the league in 2022 and used seven of this year’s 10 picks on defense.
58. . . . Washington Commanders. 29. team
Ron Rivera’s club was the only team in the NFC East this past season not to finish with a winning record and was also the only club in the division not to reach the playoffs.
The Commanders appeared to be determined to go forward with second-year pro Sam Howell at quarterback, although the team did sign journeyman Jacoby Brissett. Washington stressed offensive line improvement during free agency.
