Early 2024 NFL Draft mock draft: Falcons, Seahawks land star EDGE rushers

Scouting Report. J.T. Tuimoloau. player. Pick Analysis. EDGE. Ohio State. 13. 44

The Atlanta Falcons might average 35 points per game this season if Desmond Ridder proves to be a legitimate starting quarterback. Of course, that still might not be enough given the overall state of the defense.

Despite some work on that side of the ball this offseason, the Falcons still lack an edge-rushing presence that can dominate. J.T. Tuimoloau has that type of talent. His explosiveness at 277 pounds is impressive and he’s also a plus run defender. In an increased role for the 2023 Buckeyes, he’s going to become even more of a household name.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LB. player. 31. Clemson. Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. 14

Anyone who has watched Jarrad Davis in his career can tell you that he’s not the Giants’ long-term answer at linebacker. So the G-Men can look to another player with NFL bloodlines, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., to fill that hole.

The Clemson star is undersized a bit, but the playmaking his obvious. He has great physical tools, but his game really shines when you look at his IQ at the linebacker spot. Whether coming downhill and finding space and/or the ball or dropping into coverage, Trotter is a natural playmaker at the position.

CB. Penn State. Kalen King. 45. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 15. player

Despite all of the publicity of Joey Porter Jr. given his name in the 2023 draft process, anyone who turned on the Penn State film had to notice Kalen King. King was a monster in coverage in the 2022 season, allowing only an 18.3 passer rating in single coverage last year. He has the potential to be a bonafide shutdown cornerback in the NFL and the Broncos secondary could use an upgrade or two.

DL. LSU. Maason Smith. 16. player. Scouting Report. 36. Pick Analysis

Maason Smith clocks in at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. Yet, it speaks to his raw talent and athleticism at that size that he played largely on the edge as a freshman in 2021. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL early in the 2022 season, playing only eight snaps. With that said, he’s a physical freak and, while this is largely projection for him coming off of the injury, if he delivers on the tools, he’s a perfect fit for Seattle to beef up the trenches with an explosive, versatile piece.
