Wells Fargo Championship picks 2023: Expert picks, best bets for PGA Tour golf this week
Wells Frago Championship picks and best bets for the 2023 trip to Quail Hollow as we have an outright, Top 10 and more PGA Tour expert picks for golf.
We’re going back to Quail Hollow Club for the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship this week on the PGA Tour after the President’s Cup was held there a year ago, pushing this tournament to a different venue, TPC Potomac in Maryland, to be specific. Max Homa got the win there, but now it’s returning to its normal home for the last designated event before the PGA Championship.
Speaking of the PGA Championship, this is the venue where Justin Thomas won his first major back in 2017. It’s also the place where Homa also won (2019) and Rory McIlroy won the last time the Wells Fargo Championship was played here in 2021. All three are in the field this week, but skipping out will be Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and a handful of others in the Top 50 in the OWGR, not including Will Zalatoris and Hideki Matsuyama as both are out with injuries.
Up front, we are ice cold when it comes to the PGA Tour expert picks and best bets, getting shut out last week thanks to Wyndham Clark’s horrid first round that ultimately kept him from the Top 10 and Gary Woodland failing to get inside the Top 20. We’re down many units, but no better time to bounce back than when your back is against the wall, right?
Time to rebound with our Wells Fargo Championship picks with a winner, Top 10 and One and Done pick along with the rest of our PGA Tour expert picks and best bets.

PGA Tour expert picks for Wells Fargo Championship: Winner, Top 10, One and Done
Top 10 Pick for the Wells Fargo Championship: Tyrrell Hatton (+360)
Tyrrell Hatton just simply continues to play some great golf right now, gaining more than a stroke with his ball striking over the last 20 rounds still, even with a missed cut at the Valero Texas Open mixed in that range. Ball striking has been the M.O. of the recent winners and players who have had success at Quail Hollow in recent years, so I’m willing to bank on that, especially with Hatton getting some rest to come into this tournament fully charged.
Pick to Win the Wells Fargo Championship (0.5 Units): Viktor Hovland (+2100)
Viktor Hovland also has two weeks of rest under his belt and it’s hard not to love the way he’s hitting the ball right now. He’s gaining the second-most strokes ball striking (1.71) over the last 20 rounds in this field over the last 20 rounds. We know his short game is the big worry, but he’s not bleeding strokes there anymore and has shown real improvement. After finishing third at Quail Hollow in 2021, I like him to break through and get a continental US win this week.
One and Done Pick for Wells Fargo Championship: Viktor Hovland
It’s an elevated event, so we’re more than happy to burn another big name here and, since we haven’t used Hovland and I have him slotted to win in Charlotte this week, that seems like a pretty obvious choice.
Wells Fargo Championship picks and best bets
Rickie Fowler to finish Top 20 (+185)
The oddsmakers still haven’t picked up enough on what Rickie Fowler is right now. He’s finished Top 20 in his last four starts, three of which were designated events. So to get him at nice plus odds to do so when he’s still gaining more than 0.6 strokes on approach over the last 20 rounds while driving the ball better and, most importantly, getting right with the putter, this is a great spot for him, especially at a place where he was T4 in 2019 and T21 in 2018.
Patrick Rodgers to finish Top 20 (+350, DraftKings)
Going for a bit of a bigger swing here, Patrick Rodgers is simply playing phenomenal golf right now. He’s gaining 1.13 strokes tee-to-green over the last 20 rounds and, more pressingly, has three straight Top 20 finishes, including a T10 last week and a T19 at the elevated RBC Heritage. With him also gaining strokes with his short game right now, these are great odds to get him for this type of finish given how he’s performing on the course.
Rory McIlroy and Jason Day to both finish Top 20 (+220)
Given Rory McIlroy’s history at Quail Hollow, I had to get him on the card somehow. So I’m getting cheeky again with a Top 20 parlay alongside another player with a great history at this tournament and course, Jason Day. Rory has a win, a T8 and T16 here in his last three starts while Day was T24 in 2019 and won in 2018. Given that they have been two of the best on the PGA Tour this year overall, finishing Top 20 should be easy if their course history holds up, which it often does at this place.
Longshot pick to win the Wells Fargo Championship (0.1 Units): Hayden Buckley (+18000)
In his last three starts, Hayden Buckley has finished T10, T5 and T26, the latter of which was at the Zurich. He’s striking the ball exceptionally well right now, which is his path to success, gaining 1.89 strokes ball striking over his last 12 rounds. At this course with ball striking super important, he’s worth a sprinkle as a longshot and worth keeping an eye on for potential other sprinkles.
