The Alabama Crimson Tide fired head baseball coach Brad Bohannon on Thursday morning, signaling there may be something to the Alabama betting scandal.

Three states have halted sportsbook betting on Alabama baseball due to suspicious activity. The Crimson Tide program initiated an internal investigation and did not comment on the progress of that outlook when they fired coach Brad Bohannon on Thursday.

In their statement, the program commented on Bohannon’s firing alone.

“Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne announced he has initiated the termination process for head baseball coach Brad Bohannon for, among other things, violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of University employees,” the university said in a statement. “Bohannon has been relieved of all duties and Jason Jackson will serve as the interim head coach. There will be no further comment at this time pending an ongoing review.”

Alabama baseball betting scandal: Everything to know so far

Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania halted betting on the program after an ESPN report raised some question as to its integrity. Ohio was the first state to step in after the Louisiana Gaming Control Board suggested suspicious activity related to the Alabama-LSU baseball game. The bets were made at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, per ESPN.

“One was on a parlay which involved the LSU-Alabama game, and then there was another straight-up (money line) bet,” Ronnie Johns, chairman of the board, told ESPN. “I was told it was a large bet that involved LSU-Alabama.”

MGM released a statement to ESPN as well after the bet was placed at their location in the Reds ballpark:

“We work closely with our suspicious activity monitoring provider, US Integrity, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement when necessary. We’re actively working with the OCCC on this incident and won’t be providing additional commentary at this time,” the statement read.

The betting probe is the second unwanted incident regarding to program in recent weeks, as a former player sued Bohannon, among others, for mistreating an injury.
