Braves breath sigh of relief over another Ronald Acuña Jr. injury scare

The Atlanta Braves received some good news regarding outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr., who left Thursday’s game after fouling a ball off of his knee.

On Wednesday night, the Atlanta Braves saw not one, but two starting players leave due to injury during their game against the Miami Marlins.

Starting pitcher Kyle Wright left due to right shoulder soreness, which forced the team to place him on the 15-day injured list, while outfielder Michael Harris II hyperextended his right knee, limiting him to being an option off the bench on Thursday. Speaking of the Thursday game against the Marlins, the Braves received yet another scare, and it involed one of their best players.

In the top of the sixth inning, outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. made contact with a pitch thrown by Huascar Brazoban, but it hit him directly in the left knee. Acuña fell to the ground and began clutching it. However, Acuña finished his at-bat, striking out to end the inning. He would remain in the game until he was pulled in the bottom of the seventh inning and replaced with Sam Hilliard.

After the game, Braves manager Brian Snitker said that they removed Acuña from the game because he had difficulty bending his knee and to get a head start on treatment. Snitker stressed that Acuña will be fine.

This is now the second injury scare of the week for Acuña. This past Monday, the outfielder suffered a shoulder contusion after getting hit with a fastball thrown by New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill. X-rays came back clean, and despite being listed as day-to-day, Acuña didn’t miss a single game.

Prior to his injury, Acuña had given Atlanta a lead they would not relinquish in the form of an RBI single in the top of the second inning. That was Acuña’s lone hit in the game in three at-bats.

On the year, Acuña recorded a .355 batting average, a .445 on-base percentage, a .589 slugging percentage, six home runs, 20 RBI, 29 runs scored and 44 hits in 32 games.

While Acuña is expected to be okay, Braves fans will be waiting to see if he will be in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.
