MLB Rumors: What would it take for the Yankees to fire Aaron Boone?

For the New York Yankees to actually fire Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman is going to need to see more than some April struggles.

Yes, New York is 17-15, which is somehow only good enough for fifth place out of five teams in the AL East. The Yankees are a poorly-constructed team to begin with, and now they’re dealing with injuries to some of their best players, including Aaron Judge and Carlos Rodon. The bullpen is struggling, left field is a gaping hole…there’s a lot I could write here.

But, again, this team is somehow over .500. Eventually, the vast majority of the AL East will come back down to Earth, and the likes of Judge and Giancarlo Stanton will come back from injury. Whether that’s enough to make New York’s season a success remains to be seen, but Boone has done enough to win some games with Willie Calhoun and Co. (yes, really) among the catalysts. Gerrit Cole has been excellent in his starts. This team has few heroes right now. Boone is not one of them, at least now from the fan perspective.

I am not here to defend Aaron Boone. He is flawed, and often listens to an analytical perspective a little too much. He only has so much to work with right now, though, and some of that blame should fall on Cashman while we’re at it.

It’s only May 4. Take a deep inhale. It’s going to be a long season if Yankees fans react to every homestand with this much intensity.
