Astros’ Jose Altuve was the victim of a home burglary on Opening Day, when thieves broken into his house and stole valuable jewelry and watches.
From World Series winner to heist victim, Jose Altuve has been riding an emotional rollercoaster in the last year with the Houston Astros.
According to the Houston Chronicle’s Nicole Hensley, Altuve’s Hedwig Village home was broken into on Astros’ Opening Day, and the thieves reportedly stole $1 million worth of gold jewelry and watches.
The police have since arrested four men believed to be involved in the crime.
On the day of the break-in, Altuve was heading to Minute Maid Park for the Astros’ season-opening game against the Chicago White Sox and forgot to set his home security alarm, per the Chronicle’s Hensley.
When Altuve returned, he noticed many of his valuables were missing.

Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s home confirmed the robbery, as the video showed two men scaling Altuve’s fence and entering his home.
One of the defendants in the heist, Patrick Maxey, appeared in district court on Friday and has been in custody since mid-April. His bail is set at $200,000.
One can only imagine how the recent robbery may have shaken up Altuve at this time.
The Astros star hasn’t stepped onto the field since fracturing his thumb in the World Baseball Classic in late March; reports say he’s expected to return in early June.
Altuve has been making slow and steady improvements in his rehab, though he hasn’t yet been cleared to swing.
This year marked the first in which Altuve was excluded from Houston’s Opening Day lineup, but the reigning World Series champs will need their standout slugger to make another thrilling postseason run in 2023.
