Potential Aaron Boone replacement for the New York Yankees: Hensley Meulens
A former assistant hitting coach with the Yankees, Meulens was one of the people in the inner circle of Aaron Judge’s pursuit of the American League home run record last season. He’s now moved on to serve as the hitting coach for the Colorado Rockies, but there’s a familiarity in the Bronx with him that can’t be understated.
Meulens served as the manager for the World Baseball Classic team representing Netherlands in March, and that’s his only managing experience. Still, the time he spent with the Yankees (and the fact that he has interviewed for the Yankees manager job before, losing out to Boone in 2018) is a positive.
During his time in San Francisco, there were those who thought he would take over the Giants when Bruce Bochy left. The job, however, went to Gabe Kapler. Could Meulens, who is respected for his knowledge of the game, finally get a chance to prove himself in the Bronx, taking over a Yankees team he already knows? It would be a storybook type of finish if he were to return to the Bronx and lead a struggling Yankees squad to the promised land.
