Mets vs. Nationals prediction and odds for Saturday, May 13
By Josh Yourish
May has not been the New York Mets favorite month. They are 4-8 this month and have fallen to 19-20 on the season, but yesterday they got a win on the road over the Washington Nationals. The Nationals are 16-22 after that 3-2 loss, but will look to even the series with Trevor Williams on the mound today.
Williams comes into this start with a 4.25 ERA and a record of 1-1. He will be opposed by Joey Lucchesi who is 1-0 with a 4.43 ERA.
Here are the odds for the second game of a weekend set between the Nats and the Mets in DC.
Mets vs. Nationals odds, run line and total
Mets vs. Nationals prediction and pick
Since the start of May, the Mets are 24th in OPS and 22nd in runs scored. Starling Marte and Jeff McNeil have gone ice cold this month in particular have struggled. Marte has a .422 OPS since the beginning of the month while McNeil isn’t much better at .513. These are two crucial hitters in the Mets order, but Brandon Nimmo, Pete Laonso and Francisco Lindor all still have an OPS north of .700 this month. The Mets should improve offensively, but for now they’re struggling.
But so are the Nationals.
Washington is 23rd in OPS over that stretch, but they have scored the 15th most runs this month. Their run production doesn’t match their actual success at the plate and that means this good stretch of higher scoring games won’t last very long. However, today, they could be able to score off of Lucchesi because they are 10th in OPS against lefties this season.
Lane Thomas has been hitting lefties really well this season with a .945 OPS and two home runs. There isn’t a ton of pop in the Nats lineup, but Lucchesi has a 5.21 FIP for the Mets this season, so I like the Nats to take Game 2 of this series and the Mets struggle for traction in May.
