Philadelphia 76ers who definitely won’t be back next season

No. 1: Doc Rivers

Yeah, it’s all been leading up to this.

Monty Williams, Nick Nurse and Mike Budenholzer were all fired this year and they all made it to the NBA Finals or won a championship in the last five years.

Rivers has been with the 76ers three seasons now and he hasn’t made it to the conference finals, let alone the NBA Finals. In fact, he hasn’t taken a team to the conference finals since he was in Boston more than a decade ago.

And it’s not like he hasn’t had the teams to get there. The Chris Paul-Blake Griffin Clippers were title hopefuls. The Joel Embiid-led 76ers have the same aspirations and the same disappointments in the less stacked Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia was blown out in the second half of Game 7 against the Celtics. They gave up. And that fact lies at the feet of the head coach. So do all the questions about rotations that have lingered throughout the postseason.

Rivers is still living off his 2008 NBA Championship. Philadelphia gave him three years. He shouldn’t get another.
